Mary Chase, 89, of Harwich, MA passed away on October 24, 2019 at Pleasant Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brewster, MA after a brief illness.

Mary was born on Sept. 7, 1930 in Collinsville, CT to John and Sarah Winters. Mary was the oldest of three children. She grew up in Collinsville and graduated in 1948 from Canton High School. After high school Mary took an office position in Hartford, and would ride the bus to work and back home each day. It was during this time that she met Rocky Chase who worked as a bus driver for the New England Transportation Company. Mary fell for this handsome bus driver from Cape Cod and Mary and Rocky were married in Harwich in 1951.

Mary was the devoted mother of five children. Her family meant everything to her. She tirelessly served her family and devoted herself to their well-being. Mary worked very hard both in the home and outside the home in order to care for her family. She was indeed the anchor of the family.

Mary enjoyed family get-togethers, and especially loved having children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren around for family events. Holding a new grandchild or great-grandchild on her lap was a special treat that brought great joy.

Mary was a “wash-ashore”, coming from Connecticut in 1951. She lived in Harwich from 1951 on, and has a great love for Cape Cod and Harwich.

Mary is survived by her five children John, David, Jean, Rocky and Susan. Additionally, Mary is survived by 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by her brother, Ralph Winters. Mary was preceded in death in 2012 by her husband of 60 years, Rocky Chase.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA. on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 4-7 P.M.
