Donald E. Sheehan

Oct 31st, 2019

Donald E. Sheehan, 83, of South Yarmouth, MA, died peacefully on October 31, 2019 with his daughter by his side, after a short period of declining health.  He was the husband of the late Wilma D. (Colburn) Sheehan.

Donald was a U.S. Army veteran who served his country at the young age of 18 and he loved sharing stories about time spent in Hawaii and other adventures during that time. Upon his discharge he was employed by New England Telephone Company where he was a lineman and foreman for thirty three years.

Donald was a loving, dedicated husband, who despite a love of his career with the telephone company, retired early to care for his wife who had challenging health issues.  Their love and devotion to each other served as an amazing example to their children and grandchildren as to the true meaning of family. His wife, Wilma, predeceased him in October of 2005.

He was the father of Debra E. Sorli of Merrimack, NH and her late husband, Ronald and Kelly J. O’Loughlin of Harwich, MA and her husband, Sean.  Surviving also are six grandchildren:  Michael O’Loughlin and his wife, Rana, of Brewster, MA, Shawna Russo and her husband, PJ of Forestdale, MA, Jill O’Loughlin of South Dennis, MA, Kristen Meschino and her husband, Jameson of Hooksett, NH,  Kevin Sorli and his wife, Andrea of Swedesboro, NJ, and Kayla Sorli and her partner, Michael Oppel of West Springfield, MA. In addition he is survived by six great grandchildren:  Corbin Meschino, McKenna and Ryleigh Russo, William, Michael and Frances O’Loughlin.

In his final days, in addition to his family, he was well cared for by the wonderful staff of Liberty Commons Skilled Care and Rehabilitation Center in Chatham, MA.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on Monday, November 4, 2019 from 11:00 A.M. to12:00 Noon with a Prayer Service at Noon.  Interment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA.
