MacPherson, Bruce Alexander, 89 of Heatherwood at Kings Way in Yarmouth Port, MA, died peacefully surrounded by family on January 13, 2020. He was predeceased by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Carol Louise, his brother, Frank MacPherson of Westfield, NJ and his grandson, Christopher Gardner of West Simsbury, CT.

Bruce leaves two daughters, Janet Younker (William) of Chatham, MA and Laurie Gardner (Brian) of  West Simsbury, CT. He also leaves four grandchildren, Jennifer Gibson (Craig) and William Younker II (Jessie) both of Cohasset, MA, Courtney Gardner of Wethersfield, CT and Abigail Gardner of Milford, CT. He also leaves four great grandchildren, Drew and Taylor Gibson, Lucy and William Younker III, as well as five nieces and one nephew.

Bruce was born in West Haven, CT on March 11, 1930, son of Vivian and Alexander MacPherson. He graduated from Belmont High School in 1947 and Colby College in 1952. He served during the Korean War as LT JG aboard the USS Dortch (DD-670) for three years with duties as Operations Officer, Legal Officer and Chaplain.

Following his Navy service, Bruce was self-employed for forty-five years as owner/CEO of A.A. MacPherson Co., Inc., an electrical manufacturers’ representative firm, located in Canton, MA. He also served as national president of NEMRA and the Electrical Institute of New England, as well as an independent director of Franklin Templeton Mutual Series Funds for forty-two years.

Bruce and his wife, Carol, had homes in Needham, MA (forty-five years), Sunapee, NH (thirty-four years), Naples, FL (twenty-three years) and Yarmouth Port, MA (twenty years). He was an active member of Wellesley Country Club, Sunapee Country Club, Windstar Country Club and Kings Way Golf Club. He was a former member, deacon and moderator of the Congregational Church of Needham and more recently a member of Dennis Union Church.

Bruce was an enthusiastic golfer, Sunfish sailor and enjoyed travel. He loved sports, in particular his beloved Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics. He loved his family, his many friends and business associates and had a zest for life. He was a true gentleman and will be forever missed.

Interment will be private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. A memorial service will be held at Heatherwood at Kings Way in Yarmouth Port on February 22 at 2 PM.
