James J. McCarthy 71 of Yarmouth Port died Wednesday February 26, 2020 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

He was the beloved husband of Eileen (O’Reilly) McCarthy for 43 years.

Born in Cambridge, Jim was the son of the late James and Margaret (Kelly) McCarthy. He was a 1967 graduate of Lexington High School. Following graduation, Jim served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1971.

Following his military service, Jim attended Massachusetts Bay Community College and Boston State College where he received an associates degree in accounting.

Jim worked for many years as a Federal Auditor for the Veterans Administration. He retired to Yarmouth Port to fulfill his dream.

In addition, to his wife, Jim is survived by a daughter, Katie Germano and her husband, Travis of Milton; two sons, Shamus McCarthy of Boxborough, and Patrick McCarthy and his wife, Diandra of Wakefield; four sisters, Sheila Winter of Somerville, Carol Fifield, Kathy Parker, and Mary Beth Owen all of St. Simons Island, GA; and known as “Papi” to his four loving grandchildren, Abigail, Julianna, Jack & Evelyn.

Eileen, sorry to here of Jim's passing last week. I have many good memories of playing golf with Jimmy Sunday mornings.

Eileen, Katie, Seamus, Patrick. So Sorry to hear the news of the loss of Jimmy. You guys have always been in our thoughts and memories. All the friends of Jimmy up here in Maynard that played golf and had great memories together are at a loss. We will always have you in our thoughts and prayers. When ready please reach out to us.
