Mary J. Hedin (Bombard) 82 of Orleans died peacefully on the evening of Thursday April 16, 2020.

She was the wife of Alan R. Hedin for 62 years.

Born, raised and educated in Springfield, Mary was the daughter of the late Albert and Henrietta (Larkin) Bombard. She attended Tech High School of Springfield.

On July 27, 1957, she married her beloved husband, Al and soon settled in East Longmeadow to start a family. As her children grew, she became active in the community, volunteering in the school system and sports organizations. She was always a vocal and visible fan on the fields and in gyms around Western Massachusetts, cheering on her teams. Even later in life, she attended games of her grandchildren as well as friends of the families she knew.

Mary and Al were avid tennis players, belonging to a local club in Longmeadow, where she also worked for many years. After her children were grown, Mary and Al enjoyed attending concerts in Tanglewood, roaming the small towns of New England, antiquing and exploring the local flavor. They enjoyed traveling to Aruba and other areas of the Caribbean. Mary loved animals and volunteered at Forest Park Zoo in Springfield for many years. She was often seen around town both in East Longmeadow and in Orleans, walking and enjoying the creatures of the local parks and woods. She was also a fun loving and generous grandmother.

In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her four children, Richard, David and his wife, Jill, Lynne O’Hearn and her husband, Jim, and Alan and his wife, Chelsea; her twin sister, Annie Herskowitz; her brother, Raymond and his wife, Janet; six grandchildren, Carl, Lauren, Timothy, Kylen, Cyrus and Esme; one great grandchild, Charlie; and several beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her to parents, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Irv.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center of Cape Cod, 2095 Main St Brewster, MA 02631, www.alzheimerscapecod.org or to the ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, DC, 20090-6929, www.aspca.org.
