Barbara Sabulis

May 8th, 2020

Barbara Jane Stockwell Davies Sabulis was born in 1924 and raised in Southboro, MA where she graduated from high school. She was second youngest of ten siblings. She is survived by her youngest sibling, Robert Stockwell of Florida and pre-deceased by her other eight siblings: Gladys, Roy, James, Lester, Pearl, Lucy, Frank, and Phyllis (Ward).

She was married to Roger Davies (Army veteran) who died at a young age. Barbara moved to Cape Cod and worked at CC Hospital for many years. She was an avid golfer who traveled as a tourist and to play golf. She also enjoyed bowling and was passionate about playing Scrabble. In 1987 she happily married Vytaut (Vic) Sabulis (Navy veteran) and simultaneously took on a step-family of three children, four grandchildren, and eventually four great-granddaughters. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was especially close to her niece Janet and her nephews Donald and Russell Ward.

Barbara remained independent until she became ill and was briefly hospitalized in April. She died at home on Home Hospice with family either at her side or In contact by phone and FaceTime. She did not have CoVid 19 virus but this caused a limitation in visiting. However she was happy to be home and died peacefully due to the support of VNA Hospice of Cape Cod.

Barbara was legally blind yet flourished with the support services and especially the Talking Books of Perkins School for the Blind. Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands also provided immeasurable support services to Barbara which helped her maintain her independence and ability to live at home.

A memorial will be planned when virus restrictions allow. In lieu of flowers please donate to any of the three services named above.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either Perkins School for the Blind, 175 n Beacon St, Watertown, MA 02472; Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, 68 Rt 134, South Dennis, MA 02660; or to VNA Hospice of Cape Cod, 434 Rt 134 Suite D3, South Dennis, MA 02660.

I miss you, Barb. It was a good match for us, when we became friends, you my very smart and kind passenger, and me driving Miss Barbara to various appts, hair salon, and the Senior Center, where it all began! That was over seven years ago, at least! You were and will always be an inspiration, thoughtful, fun to be with, we had a few laughs along the way.....a really good lady. I am so glad we met!

Rest In Peace Barbara. When I think back at my childhood I remember you. You were always there when I visited Grammy and Buddy at the Cape. So thankful for the visit you made to NH with Janet . It was so nice to see you. You will be missed. Love, Lisa

Ms. Barbara, I am lucky enough to have encountered your niece, Janet. We have become good friends. She often shared stories of her visits with you and scrabble matches. I am glad to know you passed in peace at home having her with you. You led a lovely long life.

My dear aunt Barbara. You had a long & wonderful life. I hope you are with Roger (Davies) & Vic (Sabulis) and your pre-deceased 8 siblings. Say hi to everyone for me. Your younger brother, Robert is well & living in Florida. You & I often spoke of you getting to be 100 (at least!) so that your picture could be on a Smuckers jelly jar on The Today show! So now we want that for brother, Robert. Play golf, go bowling, keep winning at Scrabble. The Cape won’t be the same without you. You were loved & respected for your spirit & perseverance. Love from your niece, Janet
