Francis J. Daly

May 4th, 2020

Francis J. Daly, 88, died peacefully in his sleep on May 4, 2020 in Springfield, Virginia.

He leaves his wife, Eleanor (Gallagher) Daly, his sister Mary Murphy, three children, John (Susan) of Newington, CT; Carolyn Greenfield (David Gall) of Somers, CT; and Martha (Jim Bauman) of Westbury, New York; and his daughter-in-law Caroline (Atlee) of San Antonio, TX. Frank has 9 grandchildren: Johnny, Ryan, Michael, Erin, Anne, Mackenzie, Dana, David and James. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Gibbons and his son, James.

Born in Springfield, MA, Frank attended UMass at Amherst and proudly served in the U.S. Army as a tank commander in occupied Germany during the Korean War. He raised his family in West Hartford, CT where he lived for over 30 years. He worked for Aetna Insurance Company in Hartford as a telecommunication specialist. Frank was an Indian Guide Chief, PTA President of his kids’ school and a lector at St. Timothy Parish. After retiring, he worked part-time as a substitute teacher in Hartford. Frank shared his love of fishing and boating with his family. A lifelong Red Sox and Patriots fan, he shared that passion with his children and grandchildren.

Frank was known for his kindness, gentle nature and faith in God. That faith was rewarded, the legend goes, when his marriage in 2004 to Eleanor - a Yankee fan - broke the Curse of the Bambino and enabled the Red Sox to win the World Series. (Lest anyone doubt the power of their union, the Patriots added back to back Super Bowl wins in 2004 and 2005)!

Frank lived most of the past 15 years with Eleanor in West Dennis, MA. He loved his beautiful Wrinkle Point neighborhood and the many friendships there. He served as the Treasurer of the Association for many years. Frank enjoyed being with family and friends and was always happy to have visitors and guests. He was visited often by his many nieces and nephews. Everyone loved their Grandpa (Big Papa), Dad, Uncle Frank, especially the kids. Frank loved to travel and was fortunate to visit many parts of the world. As the son of Irish immigrants, he has family back in Dunquin, Ireland who he visited often, and he will be missed by them as well.

Frank will receive the Rite of Christian Burial on May 14, 2020 in Yarmouth Port, MA and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Pius X Church, 5 Barbara Street, South Yarmouth, MA 02664.
