Dolores A. Ellis, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home on June 8, 2020 after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. “Dolly” grew up in Framingham, attended Framingham High School, graduating in 1953. She loved her career in various municipal government positions, offering her knowledge and determination to help others. Dolly retired as the assistant to the assessor of the town of Eastham.

Dolly found joy in scoring a bargain on the clearance rack, going to the movies or baking her famous blueberry cake. She was happiest at the beach in her chair with a baby in her arms (and it did not matter whose baby). The countless beach days not only gave Dolly lasting memories, but it was a place where she built lasting friendships. Dolly passed on her love of the beach to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. All her happiest times, including her 75th and 80th birthday celebrations, included a beach day with those that she loved. The family believes that the beach is where she is now and will remain forever.

Dolly was the devoted mother of Suzanne Ellis of South Yarmouth, Jacqueline Plante of West Yarmouth and Michael Ellis and wife Suzanne of South Yarmouth. She was the adoring grandmother of Kelley Griffin and husband Peter of West Roxbury, Thomas Plante of West Yarmouth, Nicholas Plante and William Hubbard of West Yarmouth, and Matthew and Alexandra Ellis of South Yarmouth. Dolly was the GG to her most treasured gifts and reason for all her courage in her end, her great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Sloane Griffin of West Roxbury. She also leaves behind her sister, Gloria Simpson of Kittery, Maine and her niece Hollie Reese, husband Bodhi and son Braydon of Shrewsbury, and her aunt, Ida Barbosa of Belmont. Dolly was predeceased by her father, Joaquim Leao, her mother Amelia Volpicelli and stepfather Alfred Volpicelli, and her beloved baby, Michelle.

Visiting hours will be held on, June 11, 2020 from 10 am-11am at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave, South Yarmouth, MA. A graveside service will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Dennis.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform an act of kindness and eat a full-sized chocolate bar in her memory.
