Lillian C. (Kancler) Rouse Treat

Lillian C. (Kancler) Rouse Treat, 91, of Centerville, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2015.   Lillian had a long career in the law business in the Hartford area.  In later years she practiced as a trouble-shooter paralegal.  In 1966 she joined the Law Department of Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut.  Shortly afterwards, F.C.  Maynard, her superior, was promoted to the Chairman’s office of the Executive Department where she was his Administrative Assistant.  Lillian retired from Travelers in 1976 and settled with her husband, Charles N. Rouse, in Chatham Port, Massachusetts.  They previously resided in Glastonbury, Connecticut for many years.  Charles died in 1993.  She married Merritt W. Treat in 1995.  Lillian enjoyed classical literature and was an avid gardener and cook; her special interests were interior decorating, landscape designing, and architecture.  She and Mr. Rouse remodeled and built a great many homes in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Florida and they wintered in Florida since 1976.
She was recently preceded in death by her sister, Felicia K. Castellani.  Lillian is survived by her daughter, Marcia R. Ancona and her husband Benjamin, Coventry, Connecticut; a granddaughter, Maria Lilianna Ancona, of Connecticut; a brother, Daniel P. Kancler and his wife Barbara of Glastonbury, Connecticut; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.  Funeral Services will be private.  Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice or to Hospice Services of Massachusetts, 2527 Cranberry Highway, Suite D, Wareham, MA 02571
