Debra P. Deagle 63 of South Yarmouth died Wednesday July 15, 2020 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

She was the loving wife of Timothy J. Hynes.

Born in Newton, Debbie was the daughter of the late John A. and Patricia W. (Regan) Deagle and the sister of the late John J. Deagle.  She was a graduate of the University of Miami and would later earn five subsequent post graduate degrees from Harvard University.

While attending the University of Miami, she was a member of the Hurricane Honeys, an elite water-skiing group. She held the Florida state record in backstroke for years, and in 1980, she qualified as a member of the U. S. Olympic swim team as a long distance swimmer, but sadly she did not participate as the United States boycotted the games that year. In 1982 she competed in the World Games in Equador and came in second in the five mile swim. She continued with her love of swimming as a long-standing member of New England Marathon Swimmers and swam in the Boston Light swim, a 10 mile swim from Boston Light to South Boston.

Debbie had a varied and exciting career. She traveled throughout the world as Vice President of Comdex, the world’s largest convention arena for computers, alongside Sheldon Adelson. She worked for New England Restaurant Brokers, and started the Regency Restaurant Group, specializing in the sale of hotels and restaurant chains.

She sang at the Playboy Club, and was a finalist in the Miss USA pageant. There was nothing she could not do.

In later years, while recovering from a tragic elevator accident, Debbie used her creative abilities to design pearl and other one of a kind jewelry. Her designs where featured at several Cape Cod locations including Simple Vintage, The Rose Victorian, St Christopher’s, and the Antique Center in Yarmouth.

Debbie was loving and fiercely devoted to her close-knit group of friends. Her favorite spot was the boat dock off of Uncle Freeman’s Way in West Dennis, where she enjoyed a midnight swim in Bass River, when the water was calm like glass.

Debbie would tell us all, "Don't count the laps. Make every lap count."

Throughout her life. Debra was a staunch lover and supporter of animals, having donated countless handmade bedding to local shelters.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday July 30 in St. Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth.

Interment will be private.

Visitation will precede the Mass from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.
