A direct descendant of the Mayflower’s William & Mary Brewster, and loving & loved wife, mother, and grandmother, Ann (Shepherdson) Cobane passed peacefully Saturday September 19, 2020.

Ann was born & raised in Needham, by her parents, Amos and Dorothy Shepherdson who were pillars of their community.

Ann spent four years getting further education at Russel Sage College in Troy, NY, where she graduated in 1956. She was a member of the Outing Club which introduced her to one of her life-long best friends, Pat Cury, on a sleep over on Lake George. During this same period, Ann met Paul Stanley “Stan” Cobane who was attending Oswego State University in Oswego, NY. Later in life, 2003, these two got back together and were married in 2006.

Life took Ann to San Diego, CA, Manchester, CT, Miami, FL, Homer, AK, back to Needham, where she cared for her elderly father, to Deerfield Beach, FL, Grant Island, FL,where she owned a small boat to transit on and off of the island, and finally in 1999 back to Massachusetts where she bought a beautiful home in Chatham.

Ann, a single mother, enjoyed life thoroughly and introduced her four sons to many of the things they still enjoy to this day. Ann first took the boys to the Bahamas in 1974 aboard a boat, she put into fishing charter service, on which she entertained the likes of Roger Daultry of the “WHO” rock group. Two of her sons became both passionate and professional enough to make fishing and boats their life-long careers.

She taught, by example, the value of hard work, personal responsibility, decency, charity, and R&R to which her sons all owe her gratitude, as they all have lived productive and enjoyable lives, raising their own children to share these same values.

Over the last 15 years, Ann and her husband, Stan enjoyed entertaining her sons and their families on the Cape, running personal lobster traps, many hours of clamming, fishing for stripers, playing poker with their friends, exploring at estate sales, sitting and reflecting at the Chatham Lighthouse, and travelling to Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, Lake Placid, and throughout New England.

Ann is survived by her husband, P. Stanley Cobane; her sister, Jean Dana; her sons, Mark Adams of Charleston, SC, Scott Adams of Homer, AK, David Adams of North Palm Beach, FL, and Chris Adams of Carmel, CA; her grandchildren, Jonathon, Justin, Dylan, Nicole, Mailee, and Joseph Adams; and her daughters in-law, Jeanne Adams, Renee Adams, Mayumi Adams and Angela Adams. Ann was loved deeply by many and will be truly missed.

A graveside service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Friday September 25 in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave., Bourne. A procession will leave the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth at 9 a.m.  A  Celebration of her life will follow at her home in Chatham at 1 p.m.

As the cemetery limits visitors at the ceremony, and we will need to practice social distancing at the home, if you would like to attend, please text David Adams at 561-262-1515 or email him at dave@tormenterocean.com.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Ann with a donation to the charity of your choice.
