Jerome Stanley Epstein of Winston Salem, North Carolina died on  December 6, 2020.

Jerry was born in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was raised in the Kinsman neighborhood. His childhood exposure to this vibrant community informed his sense of openness and curiosity about people and cultures. The friendships he made with the Kinsman based "Viceroys" social club lasted a lifetime.

In 1951 Jerry met Marcia, the love of his life, whom he married in 1955. Marcia and Jerry were the best of friends, wonderful parents and grandparents, and an iconic duo until her death in 2001.

Jerry was an active member of the Jewish community. His life was deeply informed by Judaism, with a lifelong emphasis on social justice, care for the vulnerable and love of his neighbor. He loved Israel and traveled there extensively.

In Winston Salem, North Carolina, he was a local "Maven" of the Jewish Community, and as a lifelong swimmer graced the pools at Jewish Community Centers all over the country. Jerry was civic-minded, volunteering for both Senior Meals on Wheels and the Senior Democrats of Forsyth County well into his 80's.

Jerry was also an avid art collector. His aesthetic and keen eye were noted and valued by everyone who met him. His attention to detail and his appreciation for beauty were reflected in his work as a real-estate broker. His clients received his full attention as he dedicated himself to helping them find homes they could love and value. He made many lasting friendships through this work -- a testament to his focusing on personal connection and to caring for everyone he met.

Of all the things Jerry valued, family came first, and they feel his loss immeasurably. He leaves behind two children, Jonathon and Alisa, four grandchildren, Helena, Jacob, Sophie, and Lillian, and one great-grandson, Finlay.

Nobody in this world who met Jerry failed to notice or appreciate his loving kindness, and his family received this from him in abundance. He may not have made it to 120, but in our eyes he was still a Tzadik.

Donations in Jerry's memory can be made to the Marcia Bloch Epstein Prize for Demonstrated Commitment to Social Justice Through Teaching at Brandeis University.

Jerry will be buried alongside his beloved Marcia on Cape Cod.

An online funeral is planned.
