Roger J. Mello 83 of Yarmouth Port died peacefully Thursday February 25, 2021.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Fielding) Mello, with whom he would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 16, 2021.

Born, raised and educated in Lowell, Roger was the oldest son of the late John and Avis (Johnson) Mello. He graduated from Lowell High School as a member of the class of 1955.

After graduation, Roger joined the Raytheon Company, where he was employed for 40 years. While working full-time, Roger continued his education by attending night school at The University of Lowell where he earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Roger worked in the Missile Systems Division of Raytheon in Burlington until his retirement.

Roger raised his family in Chelmsford and lived there for many years. Once retired, he moved to Cape Cod and enjoyed a part-time job as a Starter at Blue Rock Golf Course. After living on Cape Cod, Roger and Nancy moved to New Hampshire to live closer to family and were Amherst, NH residents for 12 years. They relocated back to Yarmouth Port in August 2020.

In addition to his wife, Roger was a devoted Dad and is survived by his daughter, Lisa Sargent and her husband, Robert of Wells, ME, and Roger Mello, Jr. and his wife, Julie of Yarmouth Port. He was a loving Papa to his granddaughters, Kristina Sargent of Nashua, NH and Nora Mello of Yarmouth Port. Roger’s special little dog, Toby, survives him as well. Roger is also survived by his siblings, Joyce Murphy and her husband, Jack, Donna Drew and her husband, Donald, and Cynthia Martin and her husband, Robert; his sister-in-law, Veronica Mello; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by his younger brother, Ronald Mello and nephew Robert (Greg) Martin.

Roger’s final wishes will be honored and services will be private. His family will always remember him as a gentle soul, who wore his beloved roles of husband, dad and papa with gentleness, kindness and generosity.

Nancy, It was my pleasure to know Roger for 12 years and call him a friend. He loved his family and his cars. He enjoyed roaming over to the Carlson "field of dreams" car show. He spent many days chatting with neighbors in our red chairs. He digelently was a fixer of condo problems. I miss him. Best wishes to you and your family during your loss. Love Suz
