Mary-Jane Bush of West Dennis, formerly of Woburn, passed away on March 31, 2021. Born in Cambridge, MA the loving sister of the late Marjorie (Bush) Young and her husband Harry, and brother Charles R. Bush and his wife Grace (Crockett) of Saratoga, CA. Mary-Jane was the much-loved aunt of Elizabeth Rose (Young) and her husband Francis; Kathryn Young; Mary Young and husband Ruben Olmedo; Mary (Bush) Knopf and her husband Peter; the late Jane Bush and late Charles F. Bush; and Paul Bush and his wife Nikki (Stuckert). She is survived by her 8 adoring grand nieces and nephews and dear friend Sarah Mitchell and her colleague and friend Joanne Cheever. Mary-Jane had a host of beloved friends and colleagues who she held dear to her heart. She was happiest when surrounded by her friends and family, an eternal optimist who believed that laughter, generosity and kindness were essential to a well lived life.

Mary-Jane devoted her life to a long career in finance. She rose in a field dominated by men in the early 1970s becoming one of the few female securities traders in the country. Uniquely, she headed the largest institutional all female trading desk at John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co. Mary-Jane was later promoted to vice president and head of equity trading at Independence Investment Associates in Boston. In 1994 Mary-Jane was elected a governor of the Boston Stock Exchange becoming its first woman member. Mary-Jane was also a member of the Boston Securities Trade Association and the New York Stock Exchange Institutional Traders Advisory Committee.

Mary-Janes taught us to respond with kindness and to face life’s challenges with strength, courage and resilience. She uplifted many of us and will for years to come.

There will be a celebration of Mary-Jane’s life when we are able to gather. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Mary-Jane to The Salvation Army.

Mary Jane was a person who was just a joy to know. The write up about her really spells it out and it is a beautiful tribute to her personality and accomplishments. The one thing that I will always remember is for a wonderful laugh. It just made everyone around her feel warm and welcome. She will be missed.

Mary Jane was a light to everyone she touched. She was a favorite of her cousin Paul and lobster and martinis were often the fare of the day. As we age our wonderful memories are what help to sustain us especially in the loss of a loved one - thank you Mary Jane for all our shared memories.
