Richard S. Howes, 91 of Dennis, MA sadly passed away on April 16, 2021 surrounded by his family.  He is predeceased by his parents Anson and Esther (Wigginton) Howes and two brothers, David and Warren.  Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy S. (Steere) Howes to whom he was married for 64 years and; two children, his son, Christopher S. Howes, and his wife, Kim (Mayo) Howes and his daughter, Karen E. Howes; three grandchildren, Ryan C. Howes, Jessica Black and Heather Foster and one great granddaughter, Lyla Grace Black.

Dick was a native of Dennis.  In 1949 he was a carpenter and apprentice working for Roland Taylor along with delivering ice for his father’s ice business.  He proudly served his country in the Army from 1951 – 1953.  After returning home he was educated in Boston in electronics and worked on Martha’s Vineyard where he met his wife and they married in 1956.  He returned to Dennis to raise his family and build their new home.  He owned and operated his Television Repair Business.

Dick loved serving his community of Dennis.  He was an on-call volunteer lieutenant for the Dennis Fire Department for 25 years.  He helped establish the Dennis Senior Softball League and was a volunteer in the original development of the Johnny Kelly Park.  Dick continued his service of volunteering after retiring.  He was dedicated and passionately involved with the preservation and maintenance of the Josiah Dennis Manse historical building for numerous years.  He volunteered and personally donated to the many projects at the Dennis Memorial Library including the building of the cupola on their roof.

Richard was a devoted man to his family, friends and community.  He was skilled in many trades and was always willing to help.  Around town he was known as the “handy man”.  He could fix and repair anything.    He was an intelligent, hardworking, reliable, fun-loving man with a wry sense of humor.  His family and the Town of Dennis will not be the same without him.  He will be sorely missed by all.  Rest in peace Richard, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle and friend.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service  on Thursday,  April 22, 2021 at  2:00 PM in the Dennis Village Cemetery, Rt 6A Old Kings Highway, Dennis, MA 02638.
