Pauline F. (Peters) Eldridge, 97, of Brewster, passed away on 20 October 2015 after a brief illness.  Born and raised in Sandwich, Pauline was the beloved wife of the late W. Irving Eldridge and daughter of the late George and Lydia (Howland) Peters. She is survived by her daughter Susan Eldredge (David Beland); her granddaughters and their spouses Tammi S. Wilson (Thomas), Stephany E. Hutchinson (Michael), all of Brewster, and Cricket Hughes-VanHoose (Chris) of Denton, NC; her great-grandchildren Tyler, Makayla and Alyssa Hutchinson, Harley, Oakley, Paisley, Riley and Finley Hughes; step great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Amber and Courtney Wilson and Kirstie (Wilson) Belcher (Joshua);  two great-great-grandchildren, Dylan Wilson and Jackson Belcher; her nieces Melodi Southworth of Brewster, Ann Duchesney (Lenny) of Centerville, Bonnie Harlow of Bridgewater and Linda Harlow of Middleboro.

Pauline had a life-long love of the beach and of the flats, of the woodlands and the waters of Cape Cod. She loved laughing, good food, Irish music, sharing her ‘Crusty Old Cape Codder’ sense of humor, spinning tales of years gone by, her family and friends as well as a good whiskey. Supporting both her love of the Cape’s beaches and waters, as well as her inability to hold her tongue in check at times, she served well as Shellfish Constable for the town of Brewster and at one time ferried many of Brewster’s children safely to school and back as a bus driver.

Of all of these things, she loved her family with a fierce determination and an inexhaustible energy that was outshone only by her devotion to her great and great-great grandchildren.  Quite simply, they became her very breath.

Per Pauline’s wishes, there will be a graveside service held at Brewster Cemetery, Lower Road, Brewster, MA  on 6 November 2015 at 2pm.  Following the service, there will be a reception held for family and friends at the Hutchinson residence.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Pauline’s name may be made to the Brewster Council on Aging, 1673 Main St., Brewster, MA 02631.

Condolences may be made at www.hallettfuneralhome.com

Very nice obituary. Pauline was one of the 'Grande Dames' of Brewster. This world today could use many more like her. It was a pleasure knowing her.

Sorry for your loss! I always enjoyed her wit and view on Brewster. She was always supportive of the police department during my time. God bless and rest in peace!
