Martha N. "Marty" (Parmenter) Adams of East Dennis and formerly of Wayland, passed away peacefully in hospice care on Friday July 16, 2021.

She was the loving wife of Leland J. Adams, Jr. They had been married for 55 years.

Born in Worcester, Marty was the daughter of the late Arthur N. and Ruth G. (Shepard) Parmenter. She graduated from Penn Hall Jr. College, where she was an art major. Her fondness for art blossomed into love for colors, fashion and home decorating.

She worked for many years in the retail women’s clothing business, where her sense of style helped guide many customers.

In her 29 years as a Wayland resident, Marty was part of a team restoring the town’s inactive railroad passenger depot for community use by children and artisans. She dearly loved children as exemplified by her energies directed toward fundraising for The Home for Little Wanderers. She served as treasurer, vice president and president of the Wayland chapter for The Home.

Marty, and her husband, enjoyed traveling. A particularly memorable trip was to Paris a few years ago which included viewings of paintings in the Louvre, Musee d’Orsay plus a side trip to Giverny to visit the home, art collection and gardens of Claude Monet.

Marty treasured a relaxing day at the beach, especially with her grandchildren. Her smile, laughter and humor filled any room. She is also remembered for her love of family and friends, being a gracious hostess, enthusiasm for reading and gardening, willingness to listen well, to care for others, and the enjoyment of doing needlepoint.

On Cape Cod, Marty’s interest in the Dennis community evolved into becoming an officer for the volunteer group known as the Friends of the Cape Cod Museum of Art. She served as its treasurer and on its executive board. She also helped with many fundraising activities, especially fashion show luncheons.

The family would like to thank the medical team of Dr. Daniel V. Arnold and Kelley B. Murphy, NP of Primary Care of Cape Cod PC, for their excellent care while she was their patient.

In addition to her husband, Marty is survived by two sons, Leland J. Adams, III of West Yarmouth, and Jeffrey N. Adams and his wife, Kirsten of Alexandria, VA; three grandchildren, Lillian, Margaret and Colin Adams; two sisters, Janet N. Bogardus of East Dennis and Linda P. Goulding of Norwell; her sister-in-law Candace L. Adams of Millbury; and many nephews, grand nieces and nephews.

Burial will be private and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to The Home for Little Wanderers, 10 Guest Street, Boston, MA 02135 or to the Cape Cod Museum of Art, 60 Hope Lane, PO Box 2034, Dennis, MA 02638.

Jeff, I'm so sorry to learn of your loss of your mother. It's been decades since I saw her, but I remember her friendly smile, and her lovely personality. And I always recall how you ended your graduation speech by saying you couldn't have done it without her. Gary and I both send our condolences. Virginia Slep
