Dorothy “Diane” (Smolski) Donovan, of South Yarmouth, passed away on October 21st surrounded by her loving family at the age of 78.

Beloved wife of Edward Donovan Jr. and loving mother to son Robert Donovan and his wife Caroline of Yarmouth Port and daughter Christina (Donovan) Nault and her husband Andrew of Uxbridge. Diane was the cherished grandmother of three beautiful granddaughters, Alison, Carly and Bailey. She was the dear sister of Jeanne Barron, John Smolski, Elisabeth Barrows and Steven Smolski.

Diane and Eddie’s love story began on Popponesset Beach, Cape Cod and they were happily married for over 57 years. She loved spending time with her family, reading and sipping hot cups of tea over a crossword puzzle. For over 30 years she worked for Battelle Memorial Research Laboratory in Duxbury, MA. In her retirement years she loved sitting on the beach while vacationing to Aruba and Florida. Diane will always be remembered for her elegance, kindness, and beautiful soul. She will be dearly missed.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 30th, from 12:00pm-3:00pm at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA. A funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, October 31st at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Bourne National Cemetery.

I am so sad to hear of my Aunt Diane's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with my family especially Uncle Eddie and Robby and Christina. Ill always remember Diane's beautiful smile and the twinkle in her eyes! I hope she's in peace in heaven who has truly been blessed with another Angel. Prayers to all. Michele Donovan

Dianne was my administrative secretary at Battelle for many years. She was a manager’s dream, competent, efficient, gracious, and unflappable. So sorry for Her family, she was too young.

I will always remember our special years in Popponesset with Diane and Eddie. Wonderful memories. She always was kind and lovely. My sympathy to her family.
