Geno Capozzi, 90, of South Yarmouth, Massachusetts, passed away February 19, 2023, at the Cape Cod Hospital surrounded by his family after a battle with pneumonia. He was born in Brockton, Massachusetts, to Francisco and Alfonsina Capozzi on June 24, 1932. He grew up in Brockton with his four sisters and one brother, working with his brother Ernie at the cobbler shop and having fun with all his neighborhood friends. He attended Keith Elementary School and Brockton High School (class of 1951), where he developed lifelong friendships and an appreciation for mathematics.

He was drafted in the U.S. Army soon after high school and served in the Korean War where he attained the rank of corporal. He met more lifelong friends, including Shirley Capozzi, his wife of 66 years (married September 30, 1956).

He was an electrician out of the Brockton, MA IBEW union and store owner of the Pleasant Lake General Store in Harwich, MA until 1998.

Geno is survived and missed by his loving wife Shirley, and his children, Cheryl, Gina, Michael and Ernie. Forever cherished and remembered by his seven grandchildren, Hannah, Samuel, Maria, Angela, Lauren, Christopher and Thomas and great grandchildren Aiden and August.

His memory lives on with his nieces and nephews, Susan, Peter, Kathy, Robert, Alex, Allison, Laura and Lisa.

Geno was predeceased by his father Francisco, his mother Alfonsina, sisters Rosina, Gilda, Beatrice and Aida, and his brother Ernest. His son Ernest and granddaughter Angela.

Geno had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and was often found reading books. He enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and was an avid New England Sports fan. Shirley and Geno traveled extensively and enjoyed trips throughout the USA, Caribbean and Europe. They truly enjoyed wintering in Florida within their RV for approximately 25 years and all the friendships they made during that time.

Geno was never scared to take on new opportunities and did everything with honesty and integrity. He had very strong values and was well liked by everyone. Geno was a Jack of All Trades and A Master of None but Oftentimes Better than a Master of One. He always was available to help others.

His legacy will carry on forever and he reminded everyone whenever they were walking out the door; “Don’t Take any Wooden Nickels.” He will always be in our hearts and please cherish the memories you have of him.

A Funeral Mass and burial will be private. We invite family and close friends to attend and remember Geno’s wonderful life. We ask attendees to wear bright colors.

This nails it perfectly!! My Uncle was a special man with a great sense of humor who adored his family. I learned special appreciation for him from my mother Gilda his sister. He was pretty low key (until you got him going) when he’d unleash the greatest laugh !! He had respect for his faith & truly was a great man of many talents. Our Aunt Shirley his wife took care of him each day until it was his last day… he was loved by many & will be remembered & missed by us all
