Evelyn Doris Johnson, 85, of West Yarmouth, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Middlebury, Vermont.
Evelyn was born in 1937 in Brockton, Massachusetts to Martin J. and Evelyn L. Connolly. She attended Brockton High School where she captained her basketball team before graduating in 1955. She worked most of her career as a bookkeeper and computer operator before retiring to spend time with her family.
She married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Johnson, with whom she made a home in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Evelyn dedicated her life to family, faith, and service. She always knew how to have fun. She loved going on adventures with her close friends and family – whether driving around the cape or traveling through Europe on a river cruise. She and her husband Ron were members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Service for many years. Evelyn enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, boating, camping, and gardening. She grew beautiful roses that she shared with everyone.
Evelyn is survived by her sister, Nola Barnard of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter, Gail Jacoby (Jay) of Middlebury, VT; sons Guy Johnson of Lincoln, ME, and Carl Johnson of West Yarmouth, MA; grandchildren Andrew Takacs (Chloe) of Boston, MA, Guy Johnson Jr. of Lincoln, ME, Chris Johnson of Anson, ME; great-grandchildren Eli and Lily of Anston, ME and Jaykob Johnson of Lincoln, ME. Nieces Debbie Hickey of Wareham, MA, Sheryl McDonough of St. Petersburg, FL, and Carissa Gaine of Bethesda, MD; nephews Michael Maguire of Washington, DC, Richard Barnard of Jacksonville, FL, and Norrie Maguire of Little Rock, SC.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ronald Johnson; mother Evelyn Connolly (Williams); father Martin Connolly; sister Ann Maguire, brother Rev. Joseph Connolly; grandson Jonathan Johnson; nieces Alicia Maguire and Susan Barnard, and nephew Martin Maguire.
Visitation will be held at Hallett Funeral Home on Sun April 30th from 2:00- 5:00 PM, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave South Yarmouth, MA on Monday, May 1st at 11:00 AM with Fr. John Kelleher officiating. Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery Bourne, MA
