Patricia Ann Gahagan Chase a resident of Dennis Port passed away peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital on Sunday April 23rd, 2023.

She was born in Washington D.C in 1939 to Mae VanSickle and John Gahagan. She was raised by her Aunt Bess and Uncle Grover in Ohio and that is where she raised her two children Scott and Beth Anne who survive her. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her sister Irene. She received her degree in biochemistry from Ohio University in 1961. She moved to Cape Cod in 1995 and eventually retired there, after a distinguished career as a biochemist and immunologist in pediatric research science.

She was active in supporting her children with their endeavors while she raised them as a single parent. This included: camping with the boy scouts, the girl scouts, being the girl scouts co-troop leader and chauffeuring to many predawn ice-skating lessons. She faithfully served as an Elder at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church. She loved being outdoors hiking, was an amateur astronomer, bird watcher, and wild flower enthusiast. She was known to pass long Cape Cod winters with the occasional shell fishing jaunt She learned to ski when she was 50 and living in Switzerland. That is also where she learned to speak German, as a third language. French was her second language. She was a lifelong supporter of the arts, loved acting and participated in the revitalization of historical Cleveland theaters. She continued this passion for the arts when she moved to the Cape by serving as a member of the Dennis Arts and Cultural committee for many years and volunteering in numerous town activities. She was an avid do it yourselfer when it came to home repairs and had a flare for arts and crafts including quilting and counted cross stitch.

A memorial service will be held at Hallett Funeral home, 273 Station Ave South Yarmouth, MA on May 6th, 2023 at 1:00 PM. As a celebration of life ceremony, we request spring colors. Guests will be welcomed to her home in Dennis Port afterwards.

Beth and Scott, so sorry for loss. I have a lot of great memories of Easter dinners at her house. It has been a long time since I’ve seen her, but I think of her often. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
