Robert “Bob” Benoit passed away peacefully on April 30, 2023, at Cape Cod Hospital with his loving wife, Jane, and daughter, Stephanie, by his side, following a period of failing health.

After graduating from Brockton High School, Bob joined the Air Force, and was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida before serving in Vietnam. After completing his distinguished military service, Bob worked in the food industry, and retired after serving 35 years as a Federal Food Inspector for the US Department of Agriculture – Meat and Poultry Division.

Upon retirement, Bob moved to Yarmouth with Jane, where they shared their avid love for golf, dining out, and relaxing with friends and family. There, he took pride in his accomplishment of founding SandBar Peppers, a business he grew by personally calling on specialty shops, taverns, package stores and convenience stores from Cape Cod to Rhode Island. With the local demand growing, he established an online business and shipped orders across the country.

Bob will always be remembered for his booming laugh and gentlemanly manner. In addition to his wife of 30 years, Jane (Fraher) Benoit, Bob is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Anne Thompson and her husband, Jeffrey Wargo, and his beloved grandson, Evan, of PA. He is also survived by several sister- and brother-in-laws, and nieces, great nieces, and a great nephew. He is predeceased by his brother, Thomas Benoit.

A graveside service, officiated by Rev. Stephanie Anne Thompson and Rev. Jeffrey Wargo, will be held at Ancient Cemetery on Ancient Way off Center Street, Yarmouth Port, MA, on Thursday, May 18, 2022, at 12:00pm. All are welcome to attend to celebrate his life and to attend the luncheon immediately following the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, 300 Arnold Palmer Boulevard, Norton, MA 02766.

I just learned of Bob’s passing thanks to his close friend Tom Garvey. Bob and shared many good times together when I was the FSIS District Manager and Bob was the local Union President. We held many labor/management meetings in Cape Cod, played a few rounds of golf together and took a trip together to Maine to meet with Arthur Hughes and many FSIS retirees. My thoughts and prayers to Bob’s family and I find comfort in knowing he is in good hands with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I worked with Bob at Gilchrest Dept Store at West Gate Mall when I was 16 yrs old selling shoes!! Always a good guy. Then I went into the food business and he was a Meat inspector and we gabbed two or three times a week at S.S. Packing! Always a gentleman. Thru Facebook we kept in touch a bit an all these yrs later I am in his age range!! Thank God we both had a good life
