Carol (Hultin) Horrigan, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by husband William and members of her loving family on Sunday, July 2nd, 2023, at the McCarthy Care Center in East Sandwich, Massachusetts. Carol was born in Holden, Massachusetts to Harold and Ruth Hultin. Carol was the eldest of two children and their only daughter. Carol is predeceased by her parents and her brother David who passed away in 2021.

Carol is survived by her husband William J. Horrigan; her son Michael and his wife Linda and their children Kelly and Billy of Avon Connecticut; her daughter Cheryl Vieira and her husband Anthony of Dennis Massachusetts and their sons Christian, Christian’s wife Sarah and their two girls Ava and Riley in Santa Ana California and Joshua of Brooklyn New York; her daughter Lynne Gorsuch and her husband Brian of Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts and their daughters Kailey and Emily.

Born in Holden Massachusetts, Carol graduated from Wachusett Regional High School and then graduated as a Registered Nurse from Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. It was while attending nursing school that she met William Horrigan. Married in 1964, they remained together for 59 years supporting and caring for each other, their family, and their friends. Their marriage was a strong union based on both true love and respect for each other.

After marriage, Carol and William settled in Connecticut and started their family and careers. Carol was a nurse at Griffin Hospital in Derby Connecticut for many years where she was respected for both her compassion and professionalism. Her nursing career included acute care, home health, and later care coordination.

In addition to her nursing career, Carol loved baking, sewing, and was a skilled quilter. Carol and William often travelled throughout New England and beyond to visit different quilt stores and quilt shows. They also enjoyed traveling to various places around the United States, Ireland, and Scotland.

In 1996, Carol and William both retired to Dennis Massachusetts where they enjoyed having family and friends visit in summer and holidays. Carol was active in the quilting community including Bayberry Quilters of Cape Cod and Brewster Baysters sewing and quilting group. She was also involved with various activities at Our Lady of the Cape Catholic church in Brewster, Massachusetts. She made many great friends while living on Cape Cod through her activities. Carol valued her friendships both old and new. Carol most enjoyed the summer week where her brother David, her children, and her grandchildren would all visit together to spend days enjoying each other’s company, food, and the beauty of Cape Cod. These annual visits were a precious gift that Carol cherished. Carol loved all her children, every one of her six grandchildren and her two great granddaughters. They in turn loved her back and annual trips where the grandchildren would take Grandma out for ice cream became traditions every summer.

At Carol’s request, there will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 19th, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Cape Catholic Church, 468 Stony Brook Road, Brewster, Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you kindly consider donating to Boston Children’s Hospital (Donate Today - Boston Children's Hospital (childrenshospital.org)).

We'll always remember when we brought Tony's Mother to visit and be a part of the whole family. She thought that was wonderful. We have a photo of her with her two grandsons who were there.
