Norman William Proctor of Yarmouth Port passed away peacefully on July 21, 2023, one week shy of his 99th birthday, with his wife Joan at his side.  Norm was born and raised in Midland Park, NJ graduating from Pompton Lakes High School.  He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radio operator.  After his Naval service he received his degree from Upsala College and later earned his MBA from Pace University.

Norm and Joan were married for 66 years.  They raised their family in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ. Later in his career with the Anaconda Company and BP Oil they lived in Colorado and Illinois before retiring to the beautiful home they built in Orleans, which was the site of many special occasions. In retirement he became a Tax Enrolled Agent.

Norm loved golf and was a member of Cummaquid Golf Club where he enjoyed many rounds of golf and the friendship of so many.  He was instrumental in establishing a yearly holiday fund to recognize all the employees of the Club who worked tirelessly to make it so special.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Robert Proctor and his wife Deborah of Durham, CT, and his daughter Lynn Fox and her husband Paul of Harwich, MA.  He is also survived by his grandchildren and their spouses, Meaghan Fox, Justine (Fox) and Allen Schaen, Paul and Lauren Fox, Charles Proctor, David Proctor, and 3 great grandchildren, Paige and Pierce Schaen and Lilliana Fox.  Additionally, he is survived by his dear friends Chad and Cathy Balfanz and their family of VA, along with many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

A committal service for immediate family will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA on Friday July 28, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Honduras Children’s Project, 414 Blue Hills Road, Durham, CT. 06422 (a charity founded by Norm’s grandsons).

I am very sorry for your loss! It sounds like Norm was a great guy and I wish I had known him and had a chance to speak with him! I grew up in Pompton Lakes and was born in Hackensack in June of 1942, probably about the time Norm was graduating from PLHS. My Uncle, Howard (Howie) Kruse graduated from PLHS in 1941 and was captain of the Basketball team in his junior and senior years. He served in the Army Air Corps in WW II and after married my lovely aunt Mae McCormick who also attended PLHS (was a cheerleader) and was from Midland Park. Sincerely, Jay Giles Yarmouth Port, MA
