Steven F. Ghilardi, 67, Dennis' own beloved character, took his final bow on October 4 due to complications from cancer. Steve was born in Boston, the son of the late Helen (O’Neil) and Mario Ghilardi and spent his formative years in Weymouth.  He was a man of great commitment, dedicating nearly thirty years to the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office. Upon retirement, he continued following his father’s wheel tracks to the world of trucking, most recently with Cape Sand & Recycling. Steve was the epitome of a “man’s man.” His love for his Corvette, giant RV, Harley and boat was only surpassed by his knack for quoting 80's comedies and his delight in throwing unsuspecting relatives into the pool during family gatherings.

With a heart as big as his sense of justice, Steve was the go-to oracle for life advice and a master of diffusing tense situations with a well-timed joke. His unique spark may have dimmed but his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Steve leaves behind his wife and best friend of nearly 50 years, Sandy (Sylver), his son Jim Ghilardi and granddaughter Lillian Ghilardi of Harwich, his faithful beagle, Louie of Dennis, his sisters Kathleen Williams of Plymouth and Helen Johnson of Mashpee, several nieces and nephews, and long-time sidekick, Ricky Ravioli of Wakefield.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on October 17, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of the Cape Church, Stoney Brook Rd., Brewster, MA with a time of visitation from 10:30 to 11:00  A.M.  Interment will be private.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to MSPCA.

I worked with Lt. Ghilardi for many years and he was a great guy. He always had an upbeat personality and had a wonderful character about him. I will miss his smile and his sense of humor. It is very unfortunate to hear of his passing. He will always be remembered. May God Bless him and his family as they charter through these tough times. You rest easy Lt.
