James (Jim) Burns, aged 88, of Arlington, MA, peacefully passed away on October 26, 2023. He was born and raised in Cambridge, MA, the cherished son of the late William and Marion (Sweeney) Burns. Jim was a beloved husband to Marguerite “Margie” (Irving) for 63 years. He was a devoted father to his children, including Karen Mazukina and her husband, Edward “Ted” of Franklin, James Burns, Jr., and his husband David “Dave” Schramm of Boston, Maureen Callahan and her husband, Sean of Hingham, and Matthew Burns of Lincoln, RI. Jim was a loving Papa to Emma, Hanna and her husband Patrick Slason, Olivia, Keelyn, Avery, Ryane, and Lauryn and a cherished Great Grandpa to Zoey Slason. He is survived by his brother, John, and his wife, Carol, of Atlanta, GA, and is predeceased by his parents, William and Marion (Sweeney) Burns, his brothers Robert and William, and his sister Marie Brogan.

Jim was an alumnus of Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School and proudly served in the US Army Artillery Division during the Korean War. He embarked on a long and distinguished career with New England Telephone, beginning as a Lineman and retiring as a Foreman with AT&T after 36 years of dedicated service.

In his leisure time, Jim had a passion for gardening, photography, home improvement, Irish music, golf, and spending quality moments with family and friends. He was also an avid New England sports enthusiast.

After retiring, Jim and Margie divided their time between Yarmouth Port, MA, and Hillsboro Beach, FL. Jim will be remembered not only for his joyful personality but also for his delightful sense of humor, which brought joy to those around him. He was deeply loved and respected by his many friends and neighbors. Jim had a profound affection for his family and took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday November 3 at 11 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 32 Summer St., Yarmouth Port, MA. Visiting hours will be held on Friday November 3 from 9:30 am -10:30 at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave. South Yarmouth, MA 02664. Burial at a later date.

I am soooo sorry for your loss. Knew Jim since I was 15yrs old what a terrible loss.
