Teresa Mangione Hartranft died peacefully on November 20, 2023. She was born in Caltanissetta, Italy on January 30, 1943 and came to the US at the age of 5. Thereafter, she spent her childhood years in Seymour CT. She met the love of her life, Edwin Hartranft, at the University of Connecticut from which she graduated in 1964. Shortly after graduation, on August 29, 1964, Teresa and Edwin were married.

They lived in Pearl River NY for a brief period and then moved to Cape Cod MA in 1965. Teresa became an elementary school teacher in the Dennis Yarmouth School District. She taught there for 36 years and eventually retired in January 2000. She impacted the lives of more than 1000 local elementary students where she was a devoted educator. A thriving member of the Cape Cod community, she was a woman of many talents. She was a skilled seamstress, an excellent cook, a seasoned traveler, an avid reader, a Trivial Pursuit aficionado and also enjoyed being active in real estate management. She loved to serve her family and friends with her delicious meals: soups, pies, homemade jams, pizzas and popovers. Her home was always open and inviting!

She is survived by her beloved husband Ed “Smokey” Hartranft, and her older sister, Melina Distefano. Her brothers Salvatore Mangione and Gino Mangione pre-deceased her. As a loving aunt, she also leaves behind 11 beloved nieces and nephews along with 20 grand nieces and nephews. She will always be remembered and sorely missed!

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave. South Yarmouth, Ma 02664 on Tuesday November 28 from 9-10:30 am, followed by a funeral Mass that will be celebrated at Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave, South Yarmouth, MA at 11am. I met Terri in 1967 when we were both teachers at South Yarmouth Elementary School. We’ve shared a lot of time together most of it with our husbands John and Smokey. There was abundant laughter and very good times. Memories: a baby in a pumpkin, trips to Provincetown, pasties for Sally, winter rides, bocce, trim a tree parties, eating artichokes, hanging spoons, holidays together and so much more. I will miss you Terri but I am glad you are at peace. Love, Karen (and John)
