Eugene Paul DiCostanzo, 93, of S. Yarmouth, MA, passed into Eternal Life on Friday, January 26, 2024. Known as Gene, he was surrounded by his immediate family on the eve of his passing.
Originally from East Douglas, MA, Gene served in the Armed Forces of the United States Air Force stationed in Korea in 1953. He played a vital role in the Short Range Navigation (SHORAN) Project, a type of electronic navigation and bombing system using a precision radar beacon. He received an Honorable Discharge in July 1954.
Gene graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University’s Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1958. He achieved membership into the prestigious Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. While attending LSU, Gene met and married his wife of 68 years, Stella C. Gremillion of Alexandria, LA. Gene enjoyed a successful career in engineering and computer design, employed by IBM and then Honeywell. In the 1980’s he embarked on a second career as an entrepreneur in software development, eventually selling his company to AT&T.
Gene was a kind man to all, a devoted husband and father. His memory will be forever cherished. He is predeceased by his son, Dennis DiCostanzo and by his brother, John DiCostanzo. Gene is survived by wife Stella DiCostanzo (Gremillion) of S. Yarmouth, MA, by his son Damian DiCostanzo (and Elaine) of Boca Raton, FL, son Troy DiCostanzo (and Jerilyn) of Centerville, MA, daughter Dianna Blood (and Jeffrey) of Cave Creek, AZ and daughter Judith Sagan of Olmsted Township, OH. Gene is also survived by his brother James DiCostanzo (and Donna) of Falmouth, MA and by seven grandchildren: Olivia Sagan, Alexa DiCostanzo, Catherine Ayotte, Matthew DiCostanzo, Julia DiCostanzo, Elizabeth Ayotte and Michael DiCostanzo.
Gene’s memory will be honored in a private ceremony to be held in the late spring at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Hudson, NH.
