Charlotte A. “Charlie” (Kalal) Ellis, age 75, of Yarmouth Port, MA passed away on April 17, 2024 after declining health due to multiple sclerosis.  Charlotte was born to Joseph and Alice Kalal in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 19, 1948.  She leaves behind her dedicated husband, Peter, of 51 years.

In high school Charlie worked for Ohio Bell as a telephone operator.  One summer while going to Ohio University, she came to the Cape with the Ohio Theatre Group to work as a scene technician for the Monomoy Theatre.  Charlie got a kick out of telling people she went to college on a “beer scholarship” (Schmidt’s Beer).  After college she made her way by bus and became a wash ashore on Cape Cod and worked for the telephone company redesigning their offices on North Street, Hyannis.  It was during this time she met and married Peter.  Charlie transitioned into mapping gas mains for Colonial Gas Company.  Upon retirement she continued to work part time at CVS.

Charlie enjoyed getting lost in a book and watching the History Channel and MASH.  She loved to laugh watching timeless comedy shows.  One of her favorite stories to share was the time she skipped a day in high school and snagged an autograph of Tim Conway on her report card.

Charlie went “off Cape” with Peter to visit tropical islands (with multiple trips to Bermuda), Denmark, Spain, and various locations in the United States that expanded her knowledge and enjoyment of history and people.

She was a tidy lady who wrote checks and paid bills on Friday, did her banking and grocery shopping on Saturday, and was careful to provide an environment of wellbeing for herself and Peter in their home up until 2016 when her mobility began to diminish.  She spent a period of time teaching Sunday school and tapped into her creative gifts sharing it with children who had limitless boundaries for their imagination.

Charlie designed their current home keeping in mind the needs she would have in the future with MS while integrating her own sense of style that made her home a sanctuary.

Charlotte is survived by her brother Robert “Bob” Kalal of Ohio and her cousins Dave and Jim Kalal.  In particular, she leaves behind her niece whom she was especially proud of, Fran Kalal and her husband Alexander Law and their happy and adorable son Walden of California.

Charlie is survived by Peter, Peter’s (shared) daughter Nikki Marcantonio and her husband Bob along with their three sons, Robert, Anthony, and Justin; her brother-in-laws David Ellis of Dennis, MA, and Jim Ellis of Barnstable, MA, and his three children.

She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Alice Kalal, sister-in-law Linda Kalal, her brother-in-law Stuart Ellis and his wife Mae Belle, and sister-in-law Ruth Ellis.

Most importantly she was thankful, grateful, and blessed in her marriage and friendship with her husband Peter.

The family would like to thank Tiazah for her kind and loving care of Charlie.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Yarmouth Fire Department.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27, at 2:00 P.M. at the South Yarmouth United Methodist Church, Old Main Street, South Yarmouth, MA.
