Marie A. Hewins passed away peacefully at her home in South Yarmouth on July 2, 2024 surrounded by loving family members.

Marie Conti was born in Winthrop, Massachusetts on September 17, 1930 to parents who had both emigrated from Sicily, Italy. She graduated from Winthrop High School and has maintained friendships over the years with many classmates including seven, the 49ers, who remained lifelong friends. Marie married her high school sweetheart Walter Hewins in 1954 while he was still an active officer in the U.S. Army. Together, they moved to Cape Cod where they started their family. While Walter taught school Marie kept the home under control with three active young boys. Soon Walter became head golf professional at Bass River Golf Course and for years Marie assisted him by working at the pro shop counter. Many will remember the international golf trips on which she accompanied Walter.

While wholly dedicated to her family Marie also found the time to volunteer for many organizations and she was an active member of Saint Pius X Church. Always a natural host, friends knew when visiting the Hewins home there would be ample amounts of food and drink with "Nana" Marie hovering to make sure you had enough!

Walter and Marie enjoyed 70 years of marriage and her life was a testimony to love. Her legacy, an unwavering devotion to her family, will be passed on to surviving family members beginning with her husband Walter, sons and spouses, Steve (Kathy), Ron (Janice), Rob (Gail). Also survived by her brother Mario Conti and her grandchildren: Jessica, Gina, Nikki, Casey, Ronnie and Kia as well as four great grandchildren. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be on Friday, July 5th from 4 to 6pm at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Saturday, July 6th at Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave. South Yarmouth. Interment will follow at Chandler Gray Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to VNA of Cape Cod Hospice, 25 Communication Way, Hyannis, MA 02601,
