Allan R. Phillips of West Dennis passed away peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital on Friday, January 24, 2025, after a period of declining health with his devoted wife by his side.
Born in Boston on November 23, 1938, Allan moved to Harwich Port in 1947. He was the son of the late Loring K. and Ethel J. (Reed) Phillips. He attended Harwich Public Schools. Although Allan lived in many different places, Harwich Port always had a special place in his heart. He liked to call it “The Port”.
Allan married Martha (Crowell) Phillips on January 9, 1966. They shared fifty-nine plus years of companionship, enjoying some traveling to Florida, Arizona and exploring Ireland.
In high school, Allan was an acknowledged as an exceptional basketball player. He always enjoyed watching the Celtics, the Red Sox and NASCAR. After high school, Allan took a cross country trip to California where he would sometimes visit friends over the years.
He worked in a variety of occupations over his lifetime and was skilled in renovating houses and selling them with which he had much success.
Allan was a country music lover and also appreciated Irish ballads. One of his favorite places to eat was the Keltic Kitchen. He loved to eat, whether it was his wife’s great cooking or a good meal out somewhere. Allan enjoyed trying different restaurants and ice-cream was never turned down.
He was personable and outgoing and could strike up a conversation with anyone wherever he went. Allan maintained a very close bond with his two nieces over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Martha; sister Martha (Phillips) Osborne of Durham, New Hampshire; nieces Natasha Osborne-Howe of York, Maine and Lee (Osborne) DeNauw of Edgewater, Florida as well as their husbands, Paul Howe and Michael DeNauw, respectfully and two sisters-in-law Dianne Hamilton and Priscilla Young, both of West Harwich. He also leaves two nephews and several nieces by marriage. Allan was predeceased by sister Ethel (Phillips) Payne in 1980.
A celebration of life will take place at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11 a.m. Visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Harwich Port.
