Robert (Bob) Henry Lindquist
May 10th, 2025
Robert (Bob) Henry Lindquist of South Yarmouth went peacefully and quietly Home on May 10, 2025 at his residence surrounded by loving family.
Born in Boston in 1936 and raised in Medford, Bob was the only child of Henry and Alma Lindquist. He was a second-generation immigrant from Sweden, his family having arrived in the U.S. in 1905 from Goteborg. After WWII Bob’s family moved to Belchertown in western Massachusetts and settled on a dairy farm. Bob alleged he was a farm boy because he could milk cows by hand and buck hay bales as a young teenager. He graduated from Belchertown High School in 1954 and The University of Massachusetts in 1958. Coming from a small high school of 100 students, his UMass days were a great adventure. He joined ROTC, lettered in soccer, and survived a tragic 1956 bus accident when the team bus, returning from a game at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, missed a detour on a construction site and plunged headlong into a small river. Team members were forced to jump in darkness out of the bus windows into the stream below. Most survived the event with terrifying stories to tell. After graduation he spent two years in an Army posting at Ft. Knox, KY.
In 1962, with a business degree in insurance, he spent the next 45 years in sales and management positions with retail agencies in Amherst, South Yarmouth, and in outside sales with Rogers & Gray in South Dennis.
Bob met his wife Patricia (Wood) Lindquist in Brewster in the early 90s. First good friends, a deeper relationship developed and the courage to commit for both took place. They found a home at Brewster Baptist Church where they worshipped and served for well over twenty years. The meaning of church became a community of people saved by Jesus Christ and serving God rather than the man made religion of rules and “Thou shalt nots.” They embraced Christ’s love for all and endeavored to leave the sorting out to The Judge.
Bob was also a public servant, first in Amherst with Rotary, Boy Scouts, and the local planning board. After moving to the Cape he served terms on the Yarmouth Housing Authority, Boy Scouts, and Rotary Club of Yarmouth. In 1990 he became the first director of the joint Brewster-Harwich Housing Authority. He was most proud of successfully auditioning and singing with The Chatham Chorale and later the Outer Cape Chorale for 35 years of choral music with conductors Maggie Bossi and Allison Beavan.
Bob was a quiet supporter of the less fortunate, extending his time and resources to mentor and lift up countless people he met along the way. His favorite axiom was “If not me, who? If not now, when?”
Bob is survived by his wife Pat and their children: Scott Lindquist, his wife Lynn, and their children, Kim and Brian; Kurt Lindquist, his wife Peg, and their children Kelley (Lindquist) Miller, her husband Mike, and their daughter Cecilia, and Sarah Lindquist and her partner Josh Halliday; Sara (Lindquist) Clark, her husband Tom, and their children John and Charlie; Kristen (Langhans) Bishop, her husband Brian, and their daughter Hailey; Daniel Langhans, his wife Sarah, and their children Elijah, Silas, and Korah; Ellen (Langhans) Mills and her husband Eric; Sue (Houst) Contonio, her husband Mark, and their children Samantha and Mack. Bob was preceded in death by David Langhans.
“For my Savior loves me so, He will hold me fast.”
The family is indebted to the VNA Hospice of Cape Cod and their many caring and compassionate angels, especially Cindy Mancini, R.N. who visited, tended, advised, and listened as often as she was needed. A donation in Bob’s memory to the VNA of Cape Cod Hospice, 434 MA-134 G1, South Dennis, MA 02660 or support.givetocapecodhealth.org/donate (benefiting VNA of Cape Cod Hospice) would be a meaningful tribute.
A celebration af Bob's life will be announced in the fall.
