William Wright Horne of West Yarmouth, MA, passed away on May 28, 2025 at the age of 72.

He was the beloved husband of the late Laureanne Horne and son of the late Donald and Lucille Horne. He is survived by his brothers Donald and Kenneth. He leaves behind his two children: son Derek and his wife Nicole of Saugus; and daughter Jennifer and her husband Chris of Plymouth. He was the cherished grandfather to Ava, Rhys, Ryleigh and Rowan. Raised in Chatham, he was a proud graduate of Chatham High School and later Fitchburg State College, where he earned a degree in Industrial Arts.

He spent much of his career as a teacher at Riverview School in Sandwich. During the summers, he could often be found clamming on his boat, a pastime he loved. He often said his greatest achievement was his family.

He was thrilled to have both a son and a daughter and always supported his wife’s plans with a simple, “yes, dear.” He enjoyed everything Cape Cod had to offer, including boating, kayaking, woodworking, and stained glass. He was a fan of basketball, both playing and watching, as well as photography, walking, reading, music and dogs. He had a sweet tooth for ice cream and cherished spending time with his family.

Visiting hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025 at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth. Interment will follow in Chandler Gray Cemetery, West Yarmouth.

Bill was one of the finest and effective teachers we have ever known. He had the ability to give kids the courage, confidence and commitment to attempt projects...and stick with the project until it was completed. His classroom was a "safe harbor" for his students and a source of pride and accomplishment for them. In addition to his work in the woodshop, stained glass classes and - of course- rocketry, he served as editor of the yearbook for decades. This gave generations of Riverview kids a permanent record of their years on 6A. Rest well, Bill. You made a difference.

Billy was one of my best friends from elementary school through High School and beyond. We shared a lot of adventures together during those times and I have many treasured memories of Billy. I always appreciated his intelligence, quiet demeaner, calm personality and his zest for Cape Cod like no other. I shall always regret that we lost touch after around 2012 for we could have shared so many more experiences and been able to fill each other in on our families and our achievements with them. From Lynn and I, our Condolences and Prayers go out to his children and grandchildren. God Bless and Keep You Billy Horne!

Bill was an extraordinary teacher and was a valued and respected member of Riverview’s staff for decades. He will be long remembered for his work in the wood shop and his rocketry projects with his students. Bill had the rare ability to give his students the courage and commitment to work on wood and glass projects from beginning-to-completion. Riverview is a life-altering experience for students and Bill’s work on the annual Yearbook gave students a permanent record of their time on Route 6A. God bless you, Bill. You made an immeasurable difference..

I am sorry for the loss of Mr Horne. I had met him as a student at Riverview many years ago 77-82.He taught me in different classes; power mechanics, drafting, woodworking, rocketry and photography. Also I was thankful for him being patient with me due to my mechanical abilities.

Uncle Bill as my son's would call him was such a wonderful man. He enjoyed being Ryan and Chad's Godfather. He loved taking all of you out camping at Nickerson fishing and making smores. Bill was a gentle and quiet man, but when his voice needed to be heard it quietly was. He enjoyed home tasks and remodeling. I've known him since I was young and know family and friends meant everything to him. The children you were to the wonderful adults you became, made him so very proud. Bringing your beautiful grandchildren into his life always made him filled with such love. Bill will be so missed and anyone who knew Bill was lucky to have known him. Xoxo
