Edward Henry Sugermeyer, formerly of Springfield, MA, died peacefully on June 2, less than two months shy of his 98th birthday. He was affectionately known to his closest friends as “Shorty”. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Ann Marie, of 58 years in 2009.

Edward was the son of the late Edward D. and Madeline (Loncto) Sugermeyer. He was Dad to Mark Sugermeyer and his partner Mary Ann Albertine of Brewster, MA, Mary Ellen Farrell and her husband Tony of Hopedale MA, Steve Sugermeyer and his wife Tracey of Hampden, MA, Judy Baca and her husband Jack of East Dennis, MA and his daughter-in-law Doreen Sugermeyer. Edward was especially proud of his ten grandchildren: Katie, Jeannie, Courtney, Julie, Nora, Laura, Jacqueline, Michael, Ryan, and Kevin. Edward was also the proud great-grandfather of ten.

He was born, raised, and educated in Springfield, graduating from Tech High School. He met his wife at Lincoln Mercury where they were both employed. Edward proudly served his country in the military during World War II, a member of the last great generation.

Edward worked as a mechanical engineer for the former American Bosch on Main Street in Springfield’s north end. His title as a Mechanical Engineer was self- taught. As many would attest there was virtually nothing that he couldn’t figure out or fix.

Edward and his wife Ann Marie built their home in Dennis in 1969, providing the family with a backdrop for memories that will never be forgotten.

Edward was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved the outdoors. He loved boating and family picnics on Sandy Neck. Retiring to their home in Dennis in 1992, Edward had more time for the things that he loved

.Edward’s family would like to thank the professional staff at The Terraces in Orleans for welcoming Edward  as a member of their family. The family would also like to thank the Continuum Hospice Team for the compassionate care given to Edward.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday June 11 from 9 to11am at Our Lady of the Cape Church, Stony Brook Road in Brewster. A funeral Mass will follow immediately at 11am in the church. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, So. Dennis.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 810, Memphis, TN 38101.
