John “Gubba” Sherman Savery, 64, of Dennis, MA passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Hyannis, MA on November 30, 1960, John lived most of his life in Dennis where he became known as a man who could fix anything, build everything and always bring a smile to your face.  A true “Jack of all trades”, his work in construction and various hands-on fields reflected his practical skills, strong worth ethic and unwavering determination.

What made John unforgettable was not just what he could do, but who he was.  His quick wit, big personality and ability to make people laugh left a lasting impression on everyone he met.  He found joy in simple pleasures, especially spending time at the Moose Lodge, playing darts with friends, where he won numerous awards over the years and built a second family.

John is survived by his loving fiancé and partner of eight years, Donna Walker-Gammons; his children Alyssa Savery and her husband Paul, Stephanie Savery and Derek Savery and his wife Aubrey; his siblings George Savery and his wife Lily, Andy Savery, Michael Savery, Whitney Savery and his wife Martha, Mary-Ellen Begonis and her husband Walter, Sally (Savery) Piester and Rebecca Savery.  He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends who meant the world to him.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Maryann (O’Neil) Savery, his sister Sharon (Savery) Richard and his brother James Patrick Savery.

A private visitation for the immediate family will be held.  A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, June 24 from 5-8 P.M. open to all who loved and knew him.

John’s legacy lives on in the laughter he sparked, the lives he touched and the love he leaves behind.
