Susan (Dean) Gallagher
Jul 15th, 2025
Susan (Dean) Gallagher, 75, of West Yarmouth, MA, passed away peacefully on July 15th, 2025. Her final days were spent surrounded by love, including the presence of her children, Chris & Jenny.
Born in 1950, Susan, (known by most as ‘Susie’), grew up in Greenwich, CT, where she attended Greenwich Academy before going on to Pine Manor College. Her upbringing fostered a lifelong appreciation for nature, animals, kindness, and community service—values she carried with her throughout her years. Later in life, she was a dedicated mother who raised her two children in Maynard, MA
.
Susan was known by all who crossed paths with her as the happiest and “cutest little lady” around. Her greatest loves in life were beach walks, bird watching, Cape Cod sunsets, a good cup of clam chowder, and reading every James Patterson mystery novel she could get her hands on. She adored her granddog,Tiny, was a diehard Bruins fan, and found endless joy in the music of The Beatles. She loved regaling the tale of seeing them for the first time at age 15 at Shea Stadium. Above all, Susie’s true greatest love was for her two children, Chris and Jenny.
For many years, you could find Susie patrolling beaches and marking the nesting areas of endangered piping plovers on behalf of the Mass Audubon Society, where her deep love for birds and nature found a meaningful home. She also gave generously through volunteer work at the soup kitchen at her local church.
Susie was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Peter and Virginia “Bucky” Dean, and her sister Virginia “Muffy” Dean. She is survived by her two children, Christopher D. Gallagher and Jennifer S. Gallagher, who will forever carry Susie’s memory with them.
At her request, Susie will be memorialized privately on her favorite childhood Cape Cod beach. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Mass Audubon Society.
Susie will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on, forever at peace in “that great beach in the sky.”
