Martha Margaret Dumican, 83, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025 of Alzheimer’s Disease. She had been a resident at Maplewood Mill Hill Memory Care in West Yarmouth for over four years.

A native Cape Codder, born at Cape Cod Hospital, she was the daughter of Frederick and Irene (Tibbetts) Dumican.  Martha grew up in South Yarmouth and graduated from Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School class of 1960, Cape Cod Community College class of 1963, and West Virginia Wesleyan College class of 1965. Martha became a high school English teacher, spending most of her teaching career in St Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, with short stints in Riverhead, and Brentwood on Long Island. Martha was always very involved with her students and their activities and was class advisor to many classes. She had an outgoing personality and could strike up a conversation with anyone, familiar or not.

Martha was a long-time member of the South Yarmouth Methodist Church, where she went as a child, and became an usher at Sunday service, as well as managing the Fisherman’s Thrift Shop for many years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and was on the reunion committee for her high school class. When Martha left St Croix, she resided with her mother in West Dennis and became her caregiver until her death at over 100 years old.

Martha is survived by her brother Barry and his wife Catherine, of South Yarmouth, as well as her nephew Eric, her niece Sarah, and great-niece Eva, all of California.
