Klara H. Campos
Oct 8th, 2025
Klara H. (Kay) Campos (Straut), 95, of South Yarmouth, MA passed away on October 8, 2025 at Cape Cod Hospital after a brief illness, embraced by her loved ones.
Daughter of John Straut and Emma Straut (Osolin), she was born in Hyde Park, MA and lived briefly as a child in New Hampshire and California, before returning to Hyde Park to spend her high school years with her dear Uncle Jacob and Aunt Olga Osolin (Straut). Under their loving guidance she graduated from Roslindale High School in Boston and then received her Registered Nurse credentials from the New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. She enlisted in the Nurse Corps of the US Air Force and served overseas during the Korean War at 6208th USAF Hospital, Clark Air Force Base, Pampanga, Philippines. It was here that she met her beloved husband of 69 years, Lorenzo Campos, who was completing hospital training as part of the medical school program at the University of Santo Tomas. During that time, Kay received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of the Philippines.
In 1956, Kay and Lorenzo left the Philippines and were married in Milton, MA. Kay then served at Mitchell Air Force Base Hospital in Long Island, NY and was honorably discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant. After that, she did per diem night duty as a nurse, while Lorenzo did his postgraduate medical training in Worcester and Boston. She then teamed up with Lorenzo to support his internal medicine practice on Burncoat Street in Worcester, working as both nurse and office manager for 34 years. It was a busy place, where they ran a highly successful medical office while also raising four children.
A devoted wife and mother, Kay showered her four children and husband with love and support. Kay and her husband celebrated each of their children’s achievements as they completed high school, college, and graduate school. Family was a source of great joy, and she enjoyed cooking for large gatherings in our lively household. She ran our household with grace and skill, filling our home with love and laughter. She and her husband enjoyed many visits from their children and grandchildren, and welcomed many international visitors to her home. Her love for her family was unwavering and an amazing gift that we will treasure always.
Retiring on Cape Cod, Kay was a member of the Yarmouth Garden Club and the Yarmouth Art Guild. She enjoyed oil and watercolor painting, photography, and creating stained glass pieces. Her creative masterpieces were exhibited and sold at Cape Cod Crafters, Yarmouth Art Guild, and the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. A 30-year patron of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, she and her husband attended many classical music performances in Boston and on Cape Cod. They enjoyed the Cape Cod Symphony, Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra, and many theater performances. They also enjoyed wonderful travel experiences in many European countries including Latvia (where her parents were born), along with the Philippines and other East Asian countries. Kay and her husband especially enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the Cape’s beaches.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 69 years, Lorenzo Campos, and their four children (and their spouses): Chris (Carol) Campos, Cathy (George) Ledec, Evelyn Ruth Campos Diaz (Robert Parks), and Tony (Kim) Campos. She also leaves three beloved grandchildren Timothy (Ashley) Parks, Kate Campos, and Robyn Campos, and 2 stepgrandchildren Kerry Nelson (White), and Lauren White. She was predeceased by step-grandson Adam White. She enjoyed a family gathering just a week before her passing that included her great-grandchildren, Carson Anthony Parks and Myles Alexander Parks.
Although her physical presence is greatly missed, her amazing spirit lives on in all of us. We thank the caregivers who shared their love, support, and kindness when caring for our beloved Kay. You helped fill her days with joy, making her life easier so that she could enjoy each day surrounded by the love of her husband and family.
There are no calling hours. A funeral mass will be held at St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church on Monday October 20, 2025 at 11am, followed by internment at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, plant a native tree or make a memorial contribution to The Salvation Army, your local food bank, or other favorite charity.

Dear Dr. Campos, I am Edmond Koury's sister and remember how fond he was of you and your wife. Joe and I also enjoyed your company at several World Affairs Council meetings before you moved to the Cape. We are sad that you have lost your lovely wife and hope your 69 years of happy memories will bring you comfort in the coming days. Joe and I send you our sympathy. Sincerely, Joe and Joyce Tamer
Mom was the heart of our family. She was steady, strong, and endlessly loving. She built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and creativity, and her love for Dad and all of us was unwavering. Her 95 years were lived with purpose: as a nurse, veteran, artist, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She faced every challenge with grace and strength, leaving a legacy of compassion and courage that will guide us always. We miss her deeply, but her spirit lives on in every kindness and every shared memory. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with such love and support. It brings comfort knowing she touched so many lives so beautifully. With love, Evelyn Ruth (Ruthy) Campos Diaz
We'll keep you in loving memories.
