Thomas W. Bateman
share

It is with great sadness to share that Thomas W. Bateman, (64) of Yarmouth Port, MA, formerly of Bolton, MA, passed away suddenly on January 21, 2026.

Tom was born in North Adams, MA, the son of the late George and Jacqueline (Desnoyer) Bateman. He graduated from Drury High School in 1979, and attended Springfield College where he majored in Business, but focused coursework in Physical Education. During his time at Springfield, he was on the varsity swim team for all four years. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business 1983.

He began his career working various jobs, spending several years with Sprague Electric, when he started at Bose Corporation in 1991. After leaving Bose in 2001, he started at Allegro Microsystems where he was a Marketing Manager until 2025, when he retired.

During his lifetime, Tom lived in various locations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, Oxford, MA (1995-2000), Henniker, NH (2001-2006), Bolton, MA (2007-2023) and most recently Yarmouth Port, MA where he retired in 2024.

Tom lived his life to its fullest. He enjoyed various outdoor activities with his friends and family including alpine skiing, camping, hiking, boating, offshore fishing, and sailing. He was an avid “tinkerer”, with many do-it-yourself projects. His workshops were the envy of many! He was well known and loved in the communities where he lived and played. Hosting family and friend gatherings, barbequing and sharing stories was one of his favorite pastimes. He taught all of his children to ski and to enjoy the outdoors. He was an avid Patriots fan throughout his entire life. Most summers of his life from being a boy to father and grandfather were spent on Cape Cod, boating, beaching, exploring and having fun.

Tom loved to help others, from small tasks to longer commitments. For several years Tom volunteered and dedicated his time to being the President of the Wachusett Mountain Race Team where he made lasting impacts. In Tom fashion, he was fully committed to ensuring this team was the best program in the Northeast not only for the kids, but the parents, the mountain and the USSA.

Throughout his life, Tom made sure those around him were taken care of. He was a loyal friend to so many, a protector of the people in his life and had a special knack for getting along with people right away.

Survivors include; his wife, Leslie Ann (Mackelfresh) Bateman, daughter Katie, two sons from a former marriage to Julia Dowd (McGrath); Colin and Nicholas, daughter in law; Angela Bateman (Cobar), two beautiful grandchildren Anabell and Margaret; brothers Matthew, John, and Steve; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Services for Thomas W. Bateman will be held at the First Congregational Church of Yarmouth on Saturday February 7th at 1:30 PM located at 329 Main Street, Yarmouth Port, MA 02675. A celebration of life will be held after the service.

...My condolences to Leslie and the Bateman family. Tom's endearing qualities were many but his genuine love of family & life were always present. I would always look forward to hearing from Tom, his quick wit and character were just a few of qualities...I was lucky to meet and assist both Tom & Leslie during their transition to Yarmouth Port... My sympathy and prayers ....

I’ve met Tom through business and he was for me an inspiration and the ray of sunshine in this particular industry. One of the greatest man I’ve ever met. All my prayers and thoughts go to his family. Sending you courage, love and prayers from France.

My deepest condolences to Tom's family during these difficult times. I was blessed to have known Tom for over forty years. Tom was such a wonderful, generous, caring, and loving person. Many of my fondest memories were times spent with Tom: Summers at the cape house, Fall fishing and lobstering, Winter skiing at Loon. Love you and miss you brother!

Tom: we remember first meeting the Batemans in Nashua. You were probably around 4 years old. We were swinging on your swings singing “fat bald, and engermush” - as you could not say ignorant - a childhood joke about the FBI. You followed us to Concord then we followed you to North Adams. We have fond memories of skiing Dutch Hill, weekends at the cottage at the cape, backpacking and our infamous Canoe trips. While you were finding your way after college you lived in my living room in Manchester- for what was supposed to be a few weeks. About one year later I finally got my living room back. We had some good times that year . Time passes and lives change. I know we have not seen each other over the years. However, we will always love you and your family. It is hard to understand this loss. You were such a good athlete and active person. Also a great husband and father- just like Geo, who like Jackie , are proud parents. Yours always, Trot

To The Family, Please Accept My Heartfelt Condolences. Truly the loss of a precious loved one is most difficult. Please find comfort in the promise our most loving Heavenly Father Jehovah God gives us in Revelation 21:4"And He will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more; neither will mourning; nor outcry; nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Yes, We can look forward to a time soon to come when all suffering including death will be done away with forever. To a Man who always did it his way to care for all of us; his legacy will live on. Pay it Forward; Tom Always did. Grief never ends... But it changes. It's a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith... It is the price of love." ~Author Unknown

What a wonderful description. I had the pleasure to work with him for many years at Allegro and Tom was someone that immediately made business relationships that lasted because of his demeanor and positive attitude to help solve problems. He will be greatly missed, we love Tom!

I'm sad to see this. My family purchased the Bateman's beautiful Bolton home in 2023. Tom and I stayed in touch on and off since then. He was so kind and was always happy to help if I had a random question about the pool or anything else. Our exchanges always had a laugh as I think he enjoyed joking around as much as I do. He loved seeing pictures of my two little girls enjoying the home as he and his family did. Thank you Tom. We'll take good care of this place. My thoughts are with Leslie and the rest of his family.

Tom is the most well rounded person I ever met,in the 10 years I've known Tom and worked with him at Allegro Micro systems I have never seen him without a smile on his face. He is a true human being to the core with values like no others, I'm saddened by the loss of a true friend and the fact of not keeping in touch with him. I know God has a special place for him, I'm so sorry it was way too soon. Love John.
