Our beloved, artistic, strong-willed, and warm Pepe, Louis “Lou” Cormier, passed away on April 10, 2026 at the age of 95, almost exactly four years after the loss of his beloved wife, Fran Cormier. They shared 65 years of marriage and, in later years, made their home on Cape Cod, where they created a place that brought family together time and again.

Lou grew up in Leominster, Massachusetts, alongside his late sisters, Margaret and Gloria. He graduated from Leominster High School and went on to attend Fitchburg State University for art. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Air Force as a draftsman, a role that reflected his natural precision and eye for detail. He would occasionally share memories from that time, including his oft-told story of a memorable steak in Alaska.

Throughout his life, Lou remained deeply engaged in the arts. He taught at Andrew Ward High School for 40 years and explored a range of artistic forms, including jewelry-making and painting, sharing his skills and perspective with others over the years.

Lou and Fran lived in Fairfield, Connecticut, where they raised their daughter, before eventually retiring to Cape Cod. There, Lou became active in the local arts community. He spent time at Barnstable Pottery alongside friends and fellow artists, including Kevin Nolan and was connected to other Cape Cod pottery circles such as Scargo Pottery with the well known Harry Holl.  In later years, he developed a strong interest in photography, capturing scenes of the Cape and offering both his photographs and pottery for sale. He volunteered alongside his wife Fran at the Museum of Natural History on Cape Cod to build art pieces and provide photographs. These days his great grandchild loves running past those same contributions they made many years ago.

Lou is survived by his daughter, Leslie Guth, and her husband Steve; his granddaughter, Sarah Guth, and her husband Richard; his grandson Tyler Guth and his great-grandchildren, Julian, Hudson, and Madden..

Lou will be remembered for his strong opinions, steady presence, creativity, making morning croissants and the home he and Fran maintained on Cape Cod, filled with art, good food, and family gatherings.

The family will gather privately to mark his 95 years of life and reflect on a long marriage and a life shaped by service, creativity, and connection to others. In lieu of a formal service, please visit a local art gallery, beach or cook your favorite meal and think of Lou, our Pepe.
