Lorayne Mace
Apr 23rd, 2026
Lorayne (McGrath) Mace, 85, of South Yarmouth, MA, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026 at Cape Cod hospital after a long struggle with lung disease. Lorayne was born in Boston, the daughter of Lorraine (Gilfeather) McGrath and Harold McGrath. Lorayne is survived by her husband of 63 years James Mace, daughter Laurie Mace, brothers Robert McGrath, Warren McGrath, and Kevin McGrath as well as many cherished nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and brothers Harold McGrath and James McGrath. Lorayne graduated from Jamaica Plain High School in 1958. Her family moved to Braintree and that is where she met her husband James and they were married in 1962. Lorayne worked for the South Shore Visiting Nurse Association for many years, first in purchasing and then in the financial office. She retired from there and moved to South Yarmouth. To paint a picture of Lorayne you would have to use words like kind, forgiving and nurturing. She never hesitated to reach out to anyone experiencing a crisis and somehow innately knew what to say to them. She sought to see the good in people and held no grudges. Lorayne cared for her own child and the children of others with great joy. She always wanted to make things better for others. She was teased for saying “do you want a nice sandwich” - not just any sandwich but a nice one - her grilled cheese sandwiches were monumental. She loved to laugh and tell stories about her life and had more than a touch of the Irish wit. Lorayne will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her. All are welcome to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA, on Saturday, May 9th from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. followed by a Funeral mass at St. Pius Church, Station Ave, South Yarmouth, at 11:00 A.M.
