E. Donald Hoyt Jr., 81, of South Yarmouth and Fort Myers, passed away on May 1, 2026. He was the loving husband of the late Sandra (McNally) Hoyt who died in 2008. They had been married for 35 years. Born in 1944 in Worcester, MA, he was the son of the late E. Donald and Constance (Knight) Hoyt. Mr. Hoyt was educated in Auburn, attended Webster Academy, and was a graduate of Northeastern University with a Degree in Engineering.

He started his career as a Engineer for Westinghouse Electric Corp. After working his way up through different management positions, he finished as director of manufacturing of nuclear operations. In 1982, he and his wife opened Harborside Gardens, a large garden center and landscape construction corp. in West Dennis. They owned and operated the garden center for 22 years.

Since retirement he had the pleasure of splitting time between Cape Cod in the summer and Fort Myers in the winter. He was on the Board of Directors for Rivers Edge Association serving as President for 5 of them. Fishing and boating were among his greatest passions. Mr. Hoyt also loved cheering on his favorite Boston sports teams, rarely missing a Boston Red Sox game. Above all, he cherished spending time with his grandkids, taking great pride in each of their accomplishments.

Mr. Hoyt is survived by his daughter, Dawn H. Woodward and her husband, Jeffrey, of Yarmouth Port; a son, Scott M. Hoyt of East Dennis; four grandchildren, Christian T. Hoyt, Casey B. Hoyt, Leah P. Woodward and Ethan L. Woodward.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date, details to follow. He will be buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Dennis.
