In loving memory of our sister, aunt, God parent, and friend who gave more in life than she took. Virginia “Ginny”, H. (Burchill) Shannon, 87, of West Yarmouth, died peacefully at home June 2, 2026, Bella, her beloved cat with her. Now, she is united with her loving husband, Francis Shannon.
Born October 12,1938 in West Roxbury, Ginny was the fifth child of William and Mary (Monaghan) Burchill, the glamourous member in this loving family of eight siblings. Ginny graduated from Notre Dame Academy, Saint Elizabeth’s School of Nursing (RN), Boston State College (B.S.), completing her education at George Washington University, Nurse Practitioner.
Ginny held several challenging leadership positions during her multifaceted career as a Nurse; in Boston, Florida, Virginia, Washington. D.C., and Winthrop. She retired to Cape Cod, West Yarmouth, to enjoy the beaches, Cape Cod beauty. Joining reading groups, attending workshops, concerts, and treasuring her many Cape friendships.
Ginny was known for her kindness, generosity, presence, spirit and sense of humor. Her depth of character, dancing feet, beautiful voice and love of God. Never missing important events in the lives of her nieces and nephews, she wanted to be in the know. Ginny was a woman whose bright smile and contagious energy brightened any room.
She is survived by her sister Joan Burchill Connors, her brothers, William Burchill, Samuel Burchill. Dear sister of the late Mary T Sheehan, John J Burchill, Robert F. Burchill, and Richard O. Burchill. Also, survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 11:00AM at St. Pius X Church, Station Ave, South Yarmouth. For those unable to attend in person, the funeral Mass will be live-streamed. Burial will be private.
