KARL BENTON NORTON III, passed away peacefully on June 8th at the age of 82, after a long and brave battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He is survived by 3 siblings, 1 nephew, 3 nieces,10 great nephews and nieces, 1 great, great nephew and 1 great, great niece. Karl was born at Fort Monroe, VA to Karl B. Norton Jr. and Lillian Rutherford Norton.
He grew up in White Plains, N.Y. He attended the Millbrook School in Millbrook N.Y. where he was a member of the soccer and track teams. He received his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University and additional degrees from Cornell University and the University of Massachusetts.
Karl was quite good at playing the piano in the style of jazz and jammed with his band while at SU. He became a devoted bird watcher over the years. Being an avid and skilled sailor, he seemed to be most happy when out on the water and navigating the seas. Karl absolutely loved his ham radio activities and buddies.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the kind and compassionate staff at Liberty Broad Reach Commons and to his hospice care team there, where he spent his final years in comfort and with dignity.
