David R. Barr Jr. passed away on July 1, 2026, at the age of 73, following battles with heart disease and cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sherry L. (Clark) Barr, their son Michael C. Barr and his wife, Jennifer of North Easton, MA, daughter Jessica L. Barr of South Yarmouth, MA, and son Timothy D. Barr and his wife, Joanna, of Sarasota, FL. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Madison, Gavin, Faye, Ethan, Aine, Jocelyn, and Silas, and his sisters; Nancy J. Barr-Chaput of Punta Gorda, FL, and Terry M. Beatty of Harwich, MA, his brothers; Jeffrey S. Barr of South Yarmouth, MA, and Kenneth J. Barr and his wife, Tree of West Yarmouth, MA. He was predeceased by his parents, David, Sr. and Helen (Boessé) Barr, and son, Christopher D. Barr.
Dave was born in Hyannis and lived in Yarmouth for more than 70 years. He attended Yarmouth schools, graduating from Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School in 1970. He was involved in youth sports for many years as a participant in Yarmouth Little League and Babe Ruth League and later coaching Yarmouth Little League for about 25 years, and Tim's Babe Ruth baseball team. He was also involved in the youth sports his children played, baseball and soccer. Dave enjoyed candlepin bowling, participating in children's and men’s leagues at Mill Hill Bowling Alley, and the couple's leagues at the Orleans Bowling Alley and Cape Bowl in Yarmouth. He was an avid cribbage player, having learned the game from his father, and he taught it to his children and some of his grandchildren.
Dave began working during his junior year of high school at Packaging Industries, later renamed Sencorp-White. He left the company in 2003, then returned in 2016, before retiring in November of 2023.
Dave became a Christian in 1983, then in 1989, he and his wife, Sherry were part of a group of believers who started Cape Cod Bible Fellowship, later known as Cape Cod Bible Church, located at 621 Depot Street in Harwich. He was a deacon there for many years.
Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 3:00-5:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at Cape Cod Bible Church, 621 Depot St., Harwich, on Friday, July 17, 2026 at 10:00 AM.
