David M. Cardarelli of S. Yarmouth, Massachusetts (formerly of S. Orleans and Bridgewater) passed away on June 25, 2026. He was 93 years old. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Penelope, and his three children: Michael (Phyllis) of Windham, NH, Andrea (Deborah) of Stow, MA, and Deborah (Brian) of Pittsford, NY. He is also survived by three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two nephews, and a niece.

Born and raised in Haverhill, MA, David joined the U.S. Army in 1953. He served two years of active duty and followed that with six years of service in the U.S. Army Reserves.  After his honorable discharge, David enrolled at the University of Massachusetts and earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Later, he received a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

David’s career in engineering included the Singer Corporation, the Royal Dutch Oil Company, and the Polaroid Corporation, where he worked for nearly 25 years until his retirement.

An admirer of music, David most enjoyed big band and jazz. He played the trumpet for nearly 70 years, starting as a teenager in a big band ensemble along with his friends. They would play at weddings, dances, and other events. David was a trumpet player during his military service, performing taps and reveille daily for his Company. While living in S. Orleans, David participated in several bands on Cape Cod, including big bands and a local orchestra.

David had many interests over the years. He loved to tinker in his garage workshop, where he did everything from family car upkeep to repairing household appliances. A favorite hobby of his was to build and fly radio-controlled airplanes. He would often build planes for others who deeply admired his amazing plane building skills. He was also involved with CB radios for a time and had a love of technology and gadgets.

David loved dogs, cats, and people and was very personable and social. Talking with and getting to know others energized and filled him with joy. He was a curious person and loved learning. He will be deeply missed.

There will be a private military burial at the National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
