On August 15, 2026, Rick A. Baker, loving and devoted husband and father, passed away peacefully at the age of 74.
Rick was born on February 21, 1952, in Takoma Park, MD, to the late John G. Baker, Jr. and Janice (Allen) Baker. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Susan E. (LaPoint) Baker and his beloved children Sarah E. Baker and Catherine A. Clark and her husband Daniel R. Clark. He is also survived by his brother, John G. Baker, III.

Rick spent his younger years moving to the many places his father’s naval career sent them, including Maine, Florida and California. When his dad retired, they returned to the family home in West Dennis, MA.

Rick graduated from Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School and earned his BA in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire. After relocating to Atlanta, GA, he earned his MA in Education from Georgia State University and in 1978 began teaching high school history and coaching sports in the Atlanta Public Schools. In 1992, the family returned home to West Dennis and Rick taught at Wixon Middle School and Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School before retiring in 2016.

Rick was a man of purpose, commitment and a wicked sense of humor. Throughout his life he generously volunteered his time to community and school organizations. He loved history, literature, all sports, his gardens and the beach. Teaching was his calling and he was very grateful to have had the opportunity to touch the lives of so many young people. He spent many hours and took great pleasure in working to restore the antique home that has been in his family for generations. Rick could always be counted on to help a friend or neighbor and he was a constant source of unwavering support to his family. His greatest pride and joy were his daughters, Sarah and Catherine, and he cherished every moment he spent with them.
