Dionysios “Dennis” Theoharidis, 95 of Dennis, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026. He was born on March 13, 1931, in Piraeus Greece.

Dionysios is survived by his children Dennis Theoharidis and daughter Maria (George) Siopsis; grandchildren Apostolos, Dionysios, and Iasmi Siopsis, Dennis, Michael and Andrew Theoharidis; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Diogenes and Maria (Efstathiadi) Theoharidis; his devoted wife Eleni (Karantani) Theoharidis; and his brothers Theocharis “Harry”, Spyridonas “Spyro” and Stavros “Steve” Theoharidis.

Dionysios was the youngest of the four brothers. A child of Greek refugees from the Turkish town of Herakleia (now Marmara Ereglisi) on the north shore of the Sea of Marmara, he grew up in the Hatzikyriakeion neighborhood of Piraeus where many Greek refugee families settled. His childhood was shaped by the German occupation of Greece during WWII and the Greek Civil War, including periods of famine and terrible violence.  At the young age of ten, he began doing odd jobs like delivering bread via donkey to laborers miles away to help his family survive.   As a young man he apprenticed and worked as a furniture maker before going to sea aboard commercial ships, as many young Greek men did at the time.

His life changed dramatically after coming to the United States in 1963.   He met his wife, Eleni Karantani on a subsequent trip to Greece. They were married on August 17, 1968, in Piraeus and settled on Cape Cod to build a life together, close to his three brothers, who had arrived and married several years before.

From the hardships and uncertainty of his childhood in Greece, Dionysios built a secure and prosperous life on Cape Cod through decades of hard work. In many ways, his was a classic American success story: he built homes for others, owned property of his own, raised a family, and took great pride in seeing his children and grandchildren flourish.

Dionysios worked for Theo Construction until he retired. Alongside his brother Spyro, he had a hand in building hundreds of ranch-style homes throughout the mid-Cape, known to many locals as “Theo Houses.” He remembered his years with the company with pride in both the quality of the homes they built and for the company’s impressive productivity, completing as many as 75 houses a year at its peak.
 In Dennis, Dionysios and Eleni built their family home, where they raised their two children and cared for his aging father until his death in 1979.  Dionysios worked hard to provide for his family. He would often come home late on long summer days, taking advantage of the extra daylight at the worksite. He and Eleni also built a small family rental business. Dionysios used his construction skills—and his sometimes creative and unorthodox approach to solving practical problems, affectionately known as “the Theo way”—to maintain and repair the properties in which he took great pride.
 
Dionysios loved life:  He loved good food and drink, good music, and good company.  He and Eleni loved welcoming people into their home for large and small gatherings and were happiest when it was filled with family and friends. Those who knew him will remember his gregarious nature, his playful sense of humor, and his big personality. Others will remember quieter moments of generosity in their times of need.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1130 Falmouth Rd, Centerville, MA. Burial in Ancient Cemetery, Yarmouth, MA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Centerville.
