Cassandra “Sandy” Jean (Cassetta) Foss, 83, died Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at her home in Brewster, MA, of natural causes after a three-year battle with dementia. She was born on May 21, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY to Concetta (Esposito) Cassetta and Edward Joseph Cassetta.

Sandy grew up in her mother’s ancestral home in Brooklyn, NY, as a third-generation Italian.  In 1960, Sandy moved to Downey, CA where she completed her high school education. Shortly after graduation, Sandy attended a USO (United Service Organizations) dance where she met her future husband, Paul Everett Foss, a U.S. Navy veteran. Sandy and Paul married and lived in Downey, CA for nine years, where they raised three children. In 1971, the family relocated to West Yarmouth, MA to be closer to Sandy’s parents. The couple then had their fourth child. Sandy sought employment in the hotel services field, where she worked there and in the retail industry for 25 years. In 2008, Sandy retired, and she and Paul moved to Jay, Maine, where they resided until 2023, when she received her diagnosis. Sandy then moved to Brewster, MA, to reside with her son and his wife, Neal and Paula, who became her caregivers until her passing. 

Sandy is survived by her daughters Melinda (David) Gilmore of Rehoboth, MA, Trisha (Brian) O’Hearn of Yarmouthport, MA, sons, Neal (Paula Karras) of Brewster, MA, Jeffrey (Kim Greene) of West Yarmouth, MA, and grandchildren Ryan, Terry Gilmore, Seyla, Seth, Brent O’Hearn, Brennden, and Katy Foss.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Connie Cassetta, and her husband of 62 years, Paul Everett Foss.

Following Sandy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 11:00 am at St. Pius X Church, 98 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA.  Internment will occur at a later date in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.
