Ida V. (Stavisky) Orenstein

Ida V. (Stavisky) Orenstein 96 of South Yarmouth, and formerly of Quincy, died at her home Sunday October 9, 2016.

She was the wife of the late Joseph Orenstein, who died in 2002.

Born in New York, NY, Mrs. Orenstein was the daughter of the late Max and Molly (Ratoff) Stavisky.

Mrs. Orenstein worked as a proofreader for the Reader’s Digest in New York and after moving to Quincy, she worked as a receptionist and secretary for the Jewish Community Center. Mrs. Orenstein was a member of Temple Beth El in Quincy and the Cape Cod Synagogue in Hyannis. She also volunteered with the kindergarten and 1st grade students at the Station Avenue Elementary School in South Yarmouth for eight years.

An active member for several Jewish organizations during her years in Quincy, she also served on various committees at Thirwood Place in South Yarmouth for the past18 years.

Mrs. Orenstein is survived by three daughters, Roberta Demenkow and her husband, James of Indialantic, FL, Elaine Spector and her husband, Paul of Indianapolis, IN, and Arlene Coleman and her husband, James of Dennis; seven grandchildren, Mandie, Kyle, Emily and Jennifer Spector, Jeff and Michelle Demenkow, and Cassie Coleman; three great grandchildren, Madeline, Teo, and Vivian; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Orenstein was predeceased by a sister, Laura Fischer.

Funeral services will be private.
